Linked Slides Permissions
The Linked Slides Add-on helps you manage and find linked copies of your slides across different Google Slides presentations. To do its job effectively and securely, it needs your permission to access certain parts of your Google account. We believe in transparency, so here's a simple explanation of why each permission is needed.
"See, edit, create, and delete only the specific Google Drive files you use with this app"
Why it's needed: This permission allows the add-on to see and work with only the Google Slides presentations that you specifically select and open within the add-on. It's like giving the add-on a key to *only* the presentations you point it to, so it can search inside them for linked slides. It does not access or modify any other files in your Google Drive.
"See, edit, create, and delete all your Google Slides presentations"
Why it's needed: To find linked slides, the add-on needs to be able to "read" the content of the presentations you choose. While the current version of the add-on does not actually change or delete any of your presentations, Google doesn't provide a way for an add-on to check slide linkages without this broader "edit" permission. Think of it like needing to open the door to look inside a room because the room doesn't have any windows you could look through instead.
Important Note: The current version of the Linked Slides Add-on is designed to not modify, create, or delete any of your presentations. If a future version contains features that involve changing presentations, it will be clear what changes will be made. If you are concerned, you can always use Google Slides' "Version history" feature to confirm that the add-on has not made any unexpected changes.
"Connect to an external service"
Why it's needed: This permission allows the add-on to securely communicate with our licensing server. This is simply to check that you have a valid license to use the add-on. No content from your presentations or any personal data (other than your email for license verification) is ever sent outside of Google's systems.
"Display and run third-party web content in prompts and sidebars inside Google applications"
Why it's needed: This permission is essential for the add-on to show its user interface within Google Slides. This includes the side panel where you interact with the add-on's features and any pop-up messages or dialogs it might display. Without this, the add-on wouldn't be able to show you anything!
"See your primary Google Account email address"
Why it's needed: Your email address is used solely to verify your license for the add-on. It helps us confirm that you are a legitimate user and ensures you have access to all the add-on's features. Your email is not used for any other purpose, nor is it shared with third parties.
